Dalla vittoria nel campionato GP2 alla Super Formula in attesa di debuttare nel Mondiale F.1. Come accaduto lo scorso anno con Stoffel Vandoorne, anche Pierre Gasly prende la via del Giappone in attesa di poter entrare nel team Toro Rosso a pieno titolo. Il francese del programma Junior Red Bull è stato destinato alla Super Formula, categoria molto impegnativa e certamente più probante rispetto alla GP2 per l'esasperato confronto tra i motoristi Honda e Toyota oltre che per la durata delle gare simile a un GP di F.1. Gasly si legherà al team Nakajima, quindi Honda.
